You use Citrix Secure Gateway and Web Interface and the cost to you (apart from hardware and O/S licenses) is 'free'. However, Citrix have always stated that CSG isn't free its part of the value add of the feature rich product set.
Fast forward to today. You decide you want a Citrix Access Gateway (CAG) to replace to act as a full a replacement for my Secure Gateway Server in the DMZ.
Great, except you will then have to pay for each concurrent CSG user running through the Gateway. So in that case, is there an argument for saying that Presentation Server should be cheaper?
Indeed, would you consider buying the Gateway to replace Windows in the DMZ? If you did, would you also pay for the CALs to allow CSG connections or would you just stick with regular CSG?
Just wondered what people thought
That's certainly the sort of thing I have heard from customers. Its almost like a back door way for Citrix to charge for this great SSL VPN (CSG) that everyone always thought was 'free' with presentation server.
The other good one is that if you buy Access Gateway Enterprise when it is availabe, or upgrade to it from MSAM with subscription, then when the new release comes along later in the year you will then be forced to buy the appliance to move to the new version as the gateway component moves from being software based in version 4.0 to the appliance.
