Ok so we all know that the Event Log Consolidator has its quirks, however this one caused a bit of head scratching today!
So the Event Log Consildator (ELC) a utility that couldn't possibly screw up an entire AAC environment....could it?
If you launch the ELC from the Access Suite Console then it automatically is configured to point to the Access Farm that the Access Suite Console. However if you launch the ELC by navigating to it from the file system then by clicking File Configure you can add or remove farm settings.
Whatever you do, DO NOT remove all the farm settings from this utility. If you try and add farm settings back via this utility it crashes. If you launch the server configuration wizard it crashes. If you launch the Access Suite Console, it cannot contact the Access Farm. When the Access Gateway Services start, COM dumps are created. Oh and did I mention that no users can log in either?
To resolve add in the registry settings that relate to the Access farm and SQL/MSDE database. Mail me if you end up in this situation and need to know what these are.
Cheers,
Tim
You're not alone in having done this... I managed to do the same trick a few weeks back, but just put it down to a dody install. Fortunately our AAC environment is not in production and running on VMWARE, so it was a simple matter to blat the server and start again. Didn't fancy testing this novel 'feature' again though!
