Hi,
The Citrix Access Gateway supports all applications and protocols. Does somebody knows how Exchange email mobile sync is supported for the use of mobile devices (Windows Mobile PDA phones or Smart phones)? Email mobile sync needs a https connection with ExchangeServer, so the Access Gateway should act as an rpc proxy server in the dmz. How does this work while the CAG requires first authentications? I would like to have the CAG as the single point of access in the dmz, is this possible?
ps this has nothing to do with activesync usb support with presentationserver
Thanks for your help,
Jannie

Hi,
Currently there is no VPN support for mobile devices, just URL rewriting support (available with AAC) that will allow mobile users to preview files, access web mail and web applications.
However there is a Windows CE client in the making from Citrix that will support ActiveSync over the Citrix Access Gateway VPN connection which I believe is what you are after. I would have to dig around to try and find out some rough timescales as to when this will be on general release.
Hope this helps?

Tim,
Thanks for your help. In a recent Citrix presentation CAG with AAC 4.2 I see that email sync is a supported resource type for controling access, web-based email is another one. As far as I know MSAM did already support Exchange sync for Outlook, I don't know how they did it. I think that the CAG can tunnel https traffic, that should not be the problem, maybe is the authentication on the CAG the problem?
Regards,
Jannie

Hi,
MSAM never supported Exchange synch for PDAs, just full Win32 clients and did require the Advanced Gateway Client (as it was called at the time) to be installed on the Win32 device.
The Access Gateway does not emulate an ActiveSynch servers so Windows Mobile devices cannot talk to it directly. Instead they must have a client component that can establish a VPN tunnel so that the PDA can be 'fooled' into thinking that the Exchange server is local hence the need for client software.
Thanks,
Tim

Tim,
I'm sorry to hold on asking maybe stupid questions, I'm not an expert. I ask you to explain: When PDA's are supported to access web mail they have a https session with Exchange I suppose? In Exchange SP2 the only thing needed for email sync is a https session between the PDA and Exchange. When there is a https session between the PDA and Exchange why is it not possible to use this session to sync?
Best regards,
Jan

Hi,
When PDA's access webmail via AG, they do not have a session direct to the Exchange server but only to the AAC server. The internal AAC server communicates to the Exchange server and renders a web page that is 'read' by the PDA.
As you point out, in order to get Server ActiveSync working your PDA needs to communicate directly with the Exchange server and this will be functionality that will be provided by an AG CE client in the future.
Hope this clears things up?
